REMEMBERING DJ AM...

I don't know what it is, but I can't seem to shake this feeling. It's not like I knew him on a personal level or anything, but as a DJ, no matter what format or genre... You can't deny the fact that we have lost probably one of the biggest players in our game. Its such a sad loss and it really hits close to home when I sit back and think that this is my passion. This is what I would die for... And he took this passion, this craft of DJing, to so many different levels. He took nightlife out of the slump it was in... Music out of the gutter... He brought us all back to a time when music, clubs, and life was great. He opened doors that I guarantee no one will be able to fill for years to come. Seamlessly mixing and scratching genres from all over the place, doing live remixes, and being an innovator to the dancefloor... He was always one step ahead of the rest of us. He put the DJ back into the mainstream scene. DJ's would never be as popular as they are today and we have Mr. AM to thank. Truly a DJ's DJ... He had the power to do anything. He would be playing the glitziest Las Vegas bottle club one night, to play an underground indie dance show the next night, then off to spin some huge festival the next, then flying off to spin some fucking kid's bar mitzvah in utah the next morning (if they could afford it). And through all this hectic traveling and exposure he never lost his cool... Never "sold out"... He helped introduce the mainstream crowd to the underground indie sound that the majority of people probably would of never heard. He played the music he loved to play the way he loved to play it... And everyone loved it. Not an easy task. He made the DJ the new rockstar. I can't tell you how many DJ's I personally know who simply started spinning records because of him. He will forever exemplify everything that everyone in my community (the dj world) strives to be. RIP DJ AM...

This pic was taken courtesy of our friend DJ SCENE... AM was supposed to be in Vegas that night at Rain Nightclub in the Palms Resort for his regular Friday night residency... I thought this was a cool tribute...

... And footage from that night right before AM was supposed to take the stage...
